karen spurgin

a textile designer for over twenty years karen has developed a wide portfolio of high profile clients working across fashion, interiors, stage and screen. her reputation for innovative design and inspiring new ways of using both traditional and contemporary techniques has grown. between 1995 and 2000 she was a tutor at the royal college of art.

also employed as the textile designer for los angeles company dosa since 2000 and recently collaborated with dosa's christina kim on the show 'organic, recycled, off the grid', held in bologna, italy and on 'the curtain' for the berlinale, berlin film festival.

in 2006, working with london based designer deborah milner, karen was the textile consultant on the groundbreaking ecouture collection of evening gowns in partnership with aveda. researching, sourcing, and creating textiles that met the expectancy of luxury for a couture sensibility she also considered standards of sustainability as a viable goal. in 2007, she co-founded ao textiles, a collective of textile designers committed to further research and design, promoting designers aesthetic value while addressing ethical and ecological concerns.
