ao projects: aveda

In 2006 in partnership with beauty company, Aveda, fashion designer Deborah Milner and textile designer, Karen proposed the first ever couture collection with a sustainable remit. The result was ecouture for Aveda described by vogue as, ‘elemental, like sunset and storms’.

Each ecouture dress researched how sustainability could be applied to couture. As textile designers we looked at different elements pertaining to sustainability, natural dyeing, recycling and fair trade.

To create fabrics for the collection a new language was needed and to help, Karen involved Penny and Emma in the research and development.

It was out of this collaboration ao textiles was formed.
