The Art Workers Guild

ao is committed through practice-led research to exploring future avenues for plant-based colour. Researching historic archives internationally for often long forgotten recipes informs all ao’s research. ao’s Penny with her years of expertise working with natural dyes and collaborating with industry leads this area.

Penny is an active member of Art Workers Guild and regularly shares her knowledge.  In her latest workshop, she explored NATURAL DYES SOURCED FROM LOCAL PLANTS. In keeping with the Art Workers Guild tradition of 'learning by doing,' the workshop was open to all members regardless of their textile experience. It celebrated Penny’s ongoing practice and commitment to the transformative colour that can be obtained from humble dye plants such as  woad, indigo, madder, buckthorn berries and walnut. Using ecologically sound, non-toxic dyes sourced from local plants and traditional dye plants, Penny demonstrated the practical application of natural dyes.
