Stave Hill workshop 1

ao textiles is thrilled to be part of the UAL Community Dye Garden at Stave Hill Ecological Park. Located in inner city East London, this wild outdoor space contributes to both the learning and well-being of students. The initiative will encourage students to develop their knowledge of natural dye plants as well as to work with the local community to preserve the park's natural beauty.

The project is led by Claudia Catzeflis, Senior Lecturer and Year 1 Leader on BA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL.  As mentors and facilitators, we look forward to sharing our knowledge with the next generation through such an inspiring project.

Our workshops introduce the students to ao’s work and explain the potential of natural dyes.  Students are challenged to consider ‘Will dyes from plants become significant again as we acknowledge the need to the move away from synthetic chemicals?  And can natural dyes contribute to colour for the 21st century’
